Digital construction
research and trialing

Construction Future Lab is an independent research and development facility that focuses on the core aspects of digitalized construction. As an innovation center for Construction 4.0, we are the point of contact for local and global industry.

The remit of CFLab

We bridge the gap between tradition and modern technology in the construction industry

CFLab was founded by TU Dresden in 2022 as a non-profit research and development institution.

Our interdisciplinary team of researchers from the fields of civil engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science and design explores and develops technologies for the digitalized and highly automated construction of the future.

Our aim is to use digitalization to help make the construction and construction machinery industries more competitive and sustainable.

Our “innovation through experimentation” approach means we work with partners across all our key themes to bridge the gap between pure university research and market-oriented application—the technology readiness level (TRL) gap.

of bauma 2025

CFLab will bring a range of activities to bauma 2025, the world’s leading trade fair for construction machinery, building material machines, mining machines, construction vehicles and construction equipment.

Our key themes

CFLab conducts research in five key themed areas

The low level of automation in the construction industry leads to long construction times, increased labor costs and therefore rising prices for housing. Standardization of data and interfaces, shortages of skilled workers, and digitalization pose further major challenges. CFLab addresses these problems through application-oriented research with partners from industry, science and politics.

About us

Cooperation in the construction industry. Shaping structural and industrial transformation.

Our mission is to help build a sustainable, ecological and future-proof construction industry by means of a holistic digitalization strategy for construction and construction machinery technology.

The founding members of CFLab are 5 chairs from 3 faculties in the fields of construction management, applied computer science, drive technology, construction machinery and technical design. Our technical and scientific advisory group provides an interface with the needs and real challenges of the relevant industries.

CFLab is a state-supported initiative that has an overriding interest in impacting on structural change.

We cannot shape the construction industry of the future on our own. Share your perspectives and practical expertise with us and let’s develop sustainable and future-proof technology together.
