What is the digital laboratory construction site?
Reliable automation technology through extensive field testing
The digital laboratory construction site is a facility of approximately 3 hectares that we will build on our land in Görlitz. Using our experience from the joint Construction 4.0 project, we are creating a permanent testing area for and with innovative construction machinery technology.
The digital laboratory construction site is a starting point for:
Test area for joint research projects
Contact point for knowledge transfer
Trialing of new technologies
Test environment for external systems
In addition to the test areas for civil and structural engineering, 3D concrete printing and construction robotics, the main focus is on open-technology networking solutions and the latest wireless standards. This ensures that machine information is connected in real time with control systems. It also enables process monitoring and occupational safety solutions to be tested and implemented.
CFLab areas of work
The laboratory construction site provides an open testing environment with realistic construction-site situations. New technologies are trialed here and research results are moved towards market readiness.
Automation is THE technological building block for increasing productivity. Our focus is primarily on automated civil engineering. We develop and integrate technologies to deliver all levels of automation for construction machinery.
Processes can also be digitalized and automated using continuous signal chains. In addition to the automated movement of construction machinery, networking is another central component of CFLab. We take account not only of networking technology (WiFi, mobile communications, LPWAN) but also of standardized data models (OPC UA, DDS, AAS).
In order to realize the vision of an autonomous construction site, an entity is required that can act as a data hub and undertake order management.
These functionalities are delivered by means of a construction site control system (equivalent to the manufacturing execution system [MES] in industrial production). This is developed and set up in CFLab as a microservices environment on the local server and is available to integrate partner applications.
