Since our founding in 2022, Construction Future Lab (CFLab) has been steadily evolving into a leading innovation center for the digitalization and automation of the construction industry.
From early research projects and the establishment of our own test areas to awards and trade fair appearances – each milestone brings us closer to our vision of being instrumental in shaping the construction site of the future.
Follow the development of CFLab’s site in Görlitz – our test area and testbed ecosystem – in real time as it takes shape across an area of 80,000 m2. The live camera gives you a direct view of the construction site and shows the progress of our project. Completion is scheduled for 2026.
Construction of the new test site at Klingewalder Höhe in Görlitz begins with a funding approval notice granting €6.2 million under the Coal Regions Investment Act (InvKG). The notice is presented by State Minister Regina Kraushaar to CFLab Managing Director Professor Jürgen Weber.
At the Rail.S Summer Festival 2025, our team earns 2nd place in the Set4Future Innovation Award. We are also delighted to be nominated for the Saxon Transfer Prize 2025 in the spin-off category.
To enable our interdisciplinary team to work more closely and with greater focus on our development goals, the CFLab team members – previously spread across various TU Dresden departments – move into a shared office space in Dresden.

We present our vision for the future of construction to the industry. Conversations with other exhibitors and attendees clearly reveal one thing: The construction industry is not just talking about a transition – it genuinely needs it. And the demand for solutions that are understandable, practical, and ready for the future is high.
Our first machine arrives – and it really impresses! The L25 Electric from Volvo Construction Equipment is a battery-electric wheel loader in the 5-ton class. The vehicle is not just an emblem of sustainability – it is also helping to shape the future of construction.
We conduct extensive model-based efficiency analyses for an international construction machinery OEM to provide an application-oriented, data-driven decision basis for selecting from a wide range of drive variants.
We invite local residents and representatives from business and politics to visit our newly acquired site at Klingewalder Höhe 5, where they have the opportunity to learn more about CFLab and hear about the forward-looking projects and topics that it will pursue in Lusatia.
Our first collaborative research project is transforming fluid technology. Our goal: Implementing digitalization for Fluid Technology 4.0 in a cross-sector, cross-manufacturer data space using asset administration shells, submodels, and demonstrators.
Our team expansion goes into full swing. We are an interdisciplinary team – spanning mechanical engineering, civil engineering, mechatronics, and technical design – that combines scientific excellence with industrial experience.
We receive our first funding approval for a total of €9.1 million as start-up funding for the management of Construction Future Lab gGmbH.
We receive start-up funding under the STARK Program as part of the measures to support the coal phaseout.
The founding of CFLab marks a decisive step toward strengthening the construction industry’s future viability. Our innovative research center emerges as the logical continuation of our long-standing research activities in the fields of construction machinery, drive technology, and construction management at Dresden University of Technology.
