Key theme ___ Process reliability and workplace safety

Rethinking
construction processes

Experiencing technology. Shaping technology transfer. Disruptive technologies need a flexible and innovative space in order to be explained and experienced. Acceptance of technology starts with innovation.

What is process monitoring and workplace safety?

People-appropriate work vs. work-appropriate people

As with conventional construction, precise controls and monitoring by skilled workers and on-site management personnel will be indispensable for the new automated technologies of the construction of the future. The growing shortage of skilled workers, the increasingly pressurized deadlines for execution and the new hazards that are likely to arise when using pioneering technologies with a high degree of automation require that particular attention be paid to process monitoring and workplace safety.

Integration into existing processes

The new processes from the parallel key projects—construction robotics, 3D concrete printing, digitalization of conventional construction equipment—and the associated processes and structures have to be integrated into existing processes, or existing processes have to be adapted.

Areas of work

First measure, then analyze, and finally optimize

Process monitoring and workplace safety on construction sites gives rise to a large number of research and development studies.

One important area is the development and implementation of advanced monitoring systems that can track construction progress in real time and identify potential safety risks at an early stage. Investigations are also underway of the validity of existing building construction and civil engineering processes, and the effectiveness of existing safety guidelines, in order to uncover potential for optimization.

Further research is focusing on the ergonomics of equipment and environments, the effects of dust, noise and vibration on workers’ health and the development of new protective clothing and equipment.
